Inspiring our employees to take part in events and initiatives that support and encourage bonds with local communities has been part of the Ratcliffe way since the beginning. It is a privilege to take an interest in wider social issues. Our commitment to helping the community and the world around us has led to the creation of many charities.
What better way to demonstrate this ethos than two of our staff turning up on a sunny bank holiday weekend ready to marshal and assist at a local run.
Over summer it’s quite traditional to attend summer fairs, fetes, and shows. Some specifically for fundraising, others that bring families and communities together. Running, be it a major event such as the London Marathon or a more local fun run, has become a part of the culture which is in part fuelled by the desire to raise money for worthy causes, getting fit or just plain old competitive spirit.
“Run Winchcombe” is a local event which includes a 1K run for kids a 5K fun run and a more challenging 10K hill climb for the die-hard runner; being in the Cotswolds we do hills very well. The event started and finished in the beautiful grounds of Sudeley Castle.
We asked these staff members who volunteered for the event to share their thoughts on why this was important to them;
Jude Mokhtarudin: “I feel very privileged living in Winchcombe. It is a beautiful part of the Cotswolds. I believe it is important to take part in local events, making new friends and building a sense of community. I thoroughly enjoyed helping out, especially stewarding the children’s fun run as well as handing out the prizes, some of which were kindly donated by M R Ratcliffe Insurance Brokers.”
Mike Shaw: “Five years ago I was asked by a friend to help out and I have been volunteering ever since. I enjoy giving back to the community I belong to. Events like this bring people together and foster wonderful friendships. We can only continue with these events thanks to the sponsorship of local companies like M R Ratcliffes.”
