We are very proud of our affiliation with the haulage industry. Bob Limming and Pete at Live Promotions do a fantastic job at putting it all together to make each occasion memorable.
Having attended six of the seven events this year, only missing out on Edinburgh (which was a shame as it is always well supported), we found the events were bigger and better this year. The new events on the calendar – at Newbury and Norwich – both went very well and were a fine addition to the itinerary.
We’ve found that Truckfest brings together like-minded people and those who are actually at the sharp end of the business. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends see how the haulage industry is fairing and watch some spectacular displays.
The sites are filled with lorries old and new, the main sponsor’s stands and individual stands selling all sorts of affiliated items. In the parade ring there is entertainment during the day – stunt car drivers, Monster Trucks crushing cars and giving rides and a motorcycle display team. The big crowds always make it a great atmosphere. There is also plenty to keep the children occupied and a whole host of food and drink outlets.
In 2016 we’ve been fortunate to have more sunny days than in previous years – it really helps when the weather is good. The whole weekend is family-orientated which we at M R Ratcliffes believe in and it’s an ethos we share.
At each Truckfest you’ll find a main attraction. Special guests are invited – this year saw stars from Ice Road Truckers, Lizard Lick Towing and Storage Wars in attendance. People queue for hours to get an autograph and have their photo taken with them.
One of the highlights for M R Ratcliffes as Truckfest sponsors is the joy of taking part in the presentation of the awards. Over the weekend judges go round the showground selecting vehicles for the different categories and those selected bring their vehicles into the parade ring. The stage is set, vehicles parked in front of the judges and all waiting with baited breath.
The weekend’s commentator, Dave King, is on the mic most of the day keeping the crowds informed and coming out with lots of corny jokes. They announce the winners in each category (in reverse order to keep the tension going). The winners come up to the podium, often with their families, and are all so happy accept the prize money, trophy and have their photos taken. A great end to a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
Roll on 2017… we can’t wait!
