Conference Season Is Upon Us

These days there is a myriad of conferences, business shows and trade events that a company could attend. It appears that spring is the season to gather and to network. With so much choice how do you decide where to go and justify why attendance is necessary? Being active in industry trade events can bring many benefits; they keep you connected to other people who are operating in the same line of work and, more importantly, you keep you in touch in a live face-to-face setting with others from the business community.
It comes as no surprise that most small business owners are busy, the thought of taking a few days away from the office can seem like a waste of time. However, these live meetings are vital in establishing new ways of growing your business.
Late last year Ratcliffes collaborated with BIBA for the launch of a new scheme for transportation risks. We understand the value of meeting with our peers and are looking forward to exhibiting at the BIBA 2018 conference, the premier event for Brokers.
Brokers from all over the country will be gathering to network and exchange ideas and views. It can also be easy to talk yourself out of committing to that annual meeting – many people think that joining the organisation is enough – but to make the most on the return on your investment Brokers need to be engaged and participate in the meetings.
Accessing industry information via the Internet is useful in keeping abreast of latest news and development. Meetings, however, are more important than ever. The true value in meetings comes from the face-to-face connection. It is often the brief conversations during breaks or waiting to attend a workshop, that proves to be most fruitful.
A few reasons why attending a conference makes great business sense
Learning something new; No matter how experienced you are in your business, everyone can learn. If you are a small company then it can be isolating; without exposure to a different point of view, it can be easy to miss new ideas and trends that can influence future results. Conferences can uncover new ways of managing your business and help you discover how to be more productive.
Peer Networking; Industry conferences provide a great opportunity to network. Competitors and suppliers from other regions of the country can become valuable resources for referrals. The opportunity to collaborate can bring a fresh perspective and inspire better business practices
Meet new suppliers; this will help your business stay competitive. Conferences are a great way to discover innovative products and services.
Set yourself up as an expert; Being active in your industry can help develop a reputation as an expert to your peers and your customers. Those who are engaged over the long term are often asked to speak at the events and to write articles for their industry publications. Most people feel good about doing business with those that are celebrated by their peers. If your strategy is to be the best-kept secret in your business community you will be missing a valuable opportunity.
